Water damage isn't exactly what you consider an in-home mystery to solve. One minute, your walls and ceilings are as they should be, and the next, you have patches that look just short of begging for an umbrella. This isn't something that should be kept under wraps. The last thing that should be a secret in your home is something that's just a step or two away from ruining the very structure of your living space.
Water Damage is a Story in Three Parts:
1. The Disaster That Happens.
2. The Aftermath.
3. The Repairs and Restorations.
When your walls start telling nature's secrets, it's time to do a bit of sleuthing. Sometimes, just a coat of paint will do, quick and easy, but often the problem requires more narrative complexity, maybe even a little drywall drama. If you've ever built a fort out of pillows, you've got the basic idea behind how drywall works (though your fort was technically framed in lumber and did not have a sound stage). We've seen all kinds of wall treatments behave badly, from wallpaper that seems to have a life of its own to plaster that's just waiting to take the next plunge into full-on sighing mode. Ensuring that your home comes through resilient and looking good is kind of our thing.
Mold, mildew, and bad smells are the frequent partners of water damage. Living with these unwelcome guests could put a damper on anyone's day. But once you understand the trio's wet friendship, you can make it an ex-friend trio. Water damage can lead to some ugly truths. We may be somewhat sheltered from those truths, however, if we aren't in the midst of dealing with (a) water damage, (b) a patch of mildew on one of the walls, or (c) an uptight relative (who may not be a friend at all) coming over to inspect our living quarters. Seriously, mold, mildew, and bad smells are three stable roommates that hang out with wet surfaces.
